Race Rules

The race will be run according to the rules of ASA, WORLD ATHLETICS (WA) & AMPU.

REFEREES’ DECISION IS FINAL.

Obey all Traffic Officials and Race Marshals.

Ages: Athletes for the 42.2 km must be 20 years or older on race day.

House Rules

  1. Proof of age (ID) to be produced upon request on day of race.
  2. All athletes will participate at their own risk and by entering the event they acknowledge that they are medically fit to participate.
  3. Registered athletes must wear full club colours.
  4. 2024 license numbers on the front and back of the vest.
  5. Temporary license must be fixed on the back of the vest.
  6. Age category ID tags must be clearly displayed for the duration of the event (back and front) by athletes competing for a category prize AND must be fixed on all 4 corners and not be covered by rain jacket or any shirt.
  7. Only athletes with a race number and licensed numbers will be allowed into event area. Race number must be worn on the front of the vest.
  8. Next of kin name and contact number must appear on the entry form and race number.
  9. ASA license numbers must not be covered with any paper race numbers /race bib.
  10. Walkers competing for Walkers prize must have the “W” fixed on the left front and back of the vest, all 4 corners must be fixed.
  11. There will be a prize giving. Prize money will be transferred electronically.
  12. No littering, please make use of waste boxes at the start/finish – RUN CLEAN
  13. All participates must take note that photographs will be taken at the event and placed on social media.
  14. The use of earphones during the race is not allowed and may lead to disqualification

International Athletes

International Athletes must provide a clearance letter from their country of origin and comply with World Athletics rules 4.2 and 142.2 and ASA rule 9.

Foreign athletes are not allowed to run with an ASA Provincial licence; and are required to purchase a temporary licence otherwise face disqualification (Refer to World Athletics rule 4).

Foreign athletes are not allowed to run in club colours unless such club exits in their country of origin, or they are in possession of a refugee status permit or are naturalised citizens of RSA (Refer to World Athletics rule 4).

Waiver

By entering this marathon, I undertake to be bound by the rules and regulations of the event, including those of WA and ASA. I warrant that I am in good health and aware of the risks and dangers of the physical nature of this sporting event and do not claim ignorance of these risks and dangers. I hereby accept that I participate in the event entirely at my own risk, and I release and discharge to the fullest extent allowed in law, the organisers of the event, all sponsors persons and organisations assisting in the staging of the event, provincial and national athletics bodies and all local authorities from any responsibility, liability or costs relating to any injury, loss or damage of whatever nature however caused, arising directly or indirectly from my participation in the event including pre and post-race activities. I further agree and warrant that if at any time I believe conditions to be unsafe, I will immediately discontinue further participation in the activity. There is no insurance for a person using a temporary license.

Refund

We will refund any entry fee only in the event of the participant’s death.

Acknowledgement of Entry

Entries will be acknowledged via a valid e-mail address (as supplied on your entry form). It is your personal responsibility to check your confirmation of entry. If any of the information is incorrect, please contact the Mpumalanga Marathon Race Office so that your details can be accurately captured. You must produce this confirmation to collect your race number.

Payments

Please note that it is the runner’s responsibility to ensure they enter the correct event when entering online or at a store. Entries incorrectly entered will not be amended, and NO REFUNDS will be processed. Duplicate payment for the same entry will also NOT BE REFUNDED. Please take special note of the category options available and the age restrictions which apply. Any payments made directly into the Mpumalanga Marathon Trust account without an entry, after the official closing date, or when limits have been reached will also NOT BE REFUNDED.

 

WAIVER, INDEMNITY, AND CONSENT FOR MPUMALANGA MARATHON 2024

Release and Waiver of Liability

By participating in the Mpumalanga Marathon 2024, I agree to abide by the rules of World Athletics (WA), Athletics South Africa (ASA), KwaZulu Natal Athletics (KZNA), and the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA). This includes adhering to their regulations, payment of entry fees, and achieving the necessary qualifying times for participation. I confirm that I am physically fit, in good health, and have trained appropriately for this endurance event. I voluntarily release and hold harmless the event organizers, CMA staff, sponsors, officials, volunteers, medical staff, and all national and local authorities from any claims of injury, loss, or damage I may suffer as a result of my participation in the Mpumalanga Marathon 2024, including all related activities before and after the race.

Personal Safety

I commit to evaluating the event conditions continuously and will stop my participation if at any time the conditions are deemed unsafe. This waiver extends to my executors, heirs, administrators, and assigns.

Use of Personal Information

I grant permission for the use of my name, race details, and any media capturing my participation for promotional or other uses by the CMA and its agents without compensation. This consent aligns with Section 51 of the Electronic Communications Transactions Act 25 of 2002 and the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013. I also consent to receive race-related communications from the CMA and associated parties.

Medical Information and Care

I consent to share my pre-event medical information with the event’s medical service providers for optimal care during the event. This includes the use of my entry data, race performance, and any medical encounters for clinical audit and healthcare improvement purposes post-event.

Medical Care and Financial Responsibility

Participants with medical aid coverage transported to a Netcare Group hospital will be billed according to their medical aid scheme. Those without medical aid, transported by Netcare services, will receive complimentary treatment up to 24 hours, subject to hospital discretion. Transport to hospitals by non-Netcare services or self-arranged means will not be covered under any free treatment arrangement. All medical expenses incurred are the responsibility of the participant, not the CMA or event organizers.

By submitting this entry form electronically, I certify the accuracy of the information provided and understand that my entry may be invalidated for incomplete or incorrect details.

 

By agreeing to this waiver, indemnity, and consent form, I acknowledge understanding and acceptance of these terms for my participation in the Mpumalanga Marathon 2024.
